Villa Kelusa is a bewitching 4-suite compound on a jungle edge 3 hectares land. Villa Kelusa minutes from Ubud, offers views to volcanoes and rice paddies.
Atop a vast amphitheatre of rice paddies cascading down into the deep gorge of the holy Pakuseba River, and with a panoramic view of a distant ridge of nine ancient volcanoes, the lovely and ultra-private Villa Kelusa is nestled in the Balinese foothills beneath the very small, traditional village of Kelusa.
While practically untouched by the modern world, Kelusa is also a surprisingly few minutes drive down the hill to Ubud, a very large, bustling village which, with its world-renowned restaurants, dance performances, art galleries and nearby 5-star hotels, is considered to be the cultural center of Bali.
Villa Kelusa blends together two properties, Pondok Sapi (the Shed of the Cow) and Pondok Surya (Sunset House), which can be rented separately or together. All bedrooms, as well as living and dining areas, have breathtaking views.
To the north, Pondok Sapi is named after the ubiquitous thatched cow sheds which dot the jungles and also shelter the farmers in their rice terraces, and was designed as the private residence of a retired American writer and television journalist. Three separate buildings make up Pondok Sapi: a glass studio with two spacious in-suite master bedrooms and a library; a large open-air living pavilion with gourmet kitchen and a media room which can be converted into a third luxury bedroom; and a private entertainment cabana with infinity pool and lounge area.
Pondok Surya, or Sunset House, was also designed with open, panoramic views of the rice paddies, jungle and mountains. It has a large, second story in-suite master bedroom with a wrap-around terrace, guest bedroom and smaller kitchen. There is also another infinity pool which runs through the house, separating the living and entertainment areas.
In short:
If you’re seeking the real Bali, the enchanted Bali, the Bali so loved by musicologist Colin McPhee (author of “A House in Bali”), Charlie Chaplin, and the artists Antonio Blanco and Walter Spies…
Villa Kelusa is beckoning you.

LOVE THIS PLACE
"
You get the feeling that you have a rich college buddy or cousin and they have this jewel in Ubud. They have a staff and say "here .....enjoy......let us know anything you need". A beautiful stunning property with a great view outside of Ubud. Wayan, the house manager, discusses anything you might want for dinner or breakfast. He takes care of any issues you might have. We wanted scooters, (and they were there in a few hours). The guest houses are private with a private pool. Everything is beautifully done with natural materials with the comforts of air conditioning. The house has outside private bathrooms and showers. It's one with nature without sacrificing comforts. You can sit outside and drink cold Balinese beer and watch hundreds of satellite stations or just wonder off in the view. The pool is infinity and we couldn't stop hanging around it. Wayan, the manager is top notch!! We wanted to go to a school or see a rice farmer or watch a particular DVD......no problem. He is pleasant , knowledgeable and helpful. Wayan makes the trip and property complete. Love this place.

OFF THE BEATEN TRACK
"
My partner and I took my parents visiting from the US to Bali for a week. I live in Hong Kong and have been traveling to Bali frequently since 2000 and have stayed in a number of the high-end hotel properties (4 Seasons, Aman and others). This was our first time renting a villa and Villa Kelusa was the best decision we made about the trip. Accommodations were perfect, facilities exquisitely designed and situated in operational rice paddies (which is no longer the case at the 4 Seasons at Sayan). My parents have not stopped talking about the Villa Kelusa part of the trip -- and in particular, the hospitality shown by Wayan and the staff. It made a difference. For these somewhat 'jaded' travelers, Villa Kelusa ranks as one of the top places we've ever stayed. It's off the beaten track, but not too much so, and Ubud was only 10 minutes away. The Villa and environs give a feel of an older Bali which has gradually faded away in more congested tourist areas around Denpasar or central Ubud. Will definitively go back and stay a week. We rented the entire property for 4 of us which was great. My parents had their house, we had a our own -- in close proximity (20 meters or so). A very special place.

RELAXING ATMOSPHERE
"
My wife and I stayed at Villa Kelusa for a few nights at the end of last year, and it's been a lovely experience all around. Our villa was excellent, and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. Wayan was great and made sure everything worked out flawlessly. For example, we had dinner in Ubud on two nights and it was no problem for him to drop us at the restaurants as well as pick us up after dinner. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. We're definitely going back again this year to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of the villa and explore Ubud a little more.
